If you’re new to the medical or billing field, we may touch on some topics that you aren’t very familiar with. We want to be as helpful as possible so we’ve taken the time to create a guidebook, a dictionary that helps you know exactly what we mean. Read over it and keep in on hand for when you come across medical or billing terms you don’t know in your business.
Let’s start off with the basics.
Rural health clinic – A health clinic/office in a non-urbanized area
HIPAA – Health Insurance Portability And Accountability Act – A legislation that provides medical data security
Data scrubbing – Reviewing (medical) data for accuracy and formation
Coding – Universal alphanumeric system of transcribing medical procedures, services, diagnoses, and equipment
CPT Coding – Current Procedural Terminology – The standard medical code set maintained by the American Medical Association
Claim – A detailed invoice that a health care provider send to a health insurer
Now that you know these useful medical and billing terms, you can better understand the process of diagnosing, billing, and paying. Because we’ll all have experiences with medical needs and the billing process that comes afterward, knowing the procedure can make the whole thing a little less stressful and a little more streamlined.
